guide
streaming with OBS

if you’re streaming with OBS and you’re trying to use your veadotube mini avatar with it, this guide is for you!

capturing on Windows

Game/Window Capture

in the Sources panel, press +, select Game Capture, optionally give it a name, and press OK.

that will bring up a window where you can select which window to capture! make sure Mode is set to Capture specific window, and select veadotube mini as the captured window. also, make sure that Capture Cursor is unchecked.

you can check Allow transparency to automatically make the background transparent; this doesn’t work 100%, and you might still see a border around your avatar in the colour of the background; try changing the background colour in mini through the display settings button to something that looks better!

if Game Capture won’t work for you, you can use Window Capture instead.

make sure the Capture Method is set to Windows 10 (1903 and up) if that option is available, uncheck Capture Cursor, and check Client Area. if you can’t find veadotube mini in that list, try restarting OBS!

if you’re going through the Window Capture route, or if you don’t wanna use the transparency feature on Game Capture, you might wanna remove the background by using filters! to do so, right-click the game capture you just created, and select Filters.

in the Effect Filters panel, press + and select Colour Key; select the background colour you’re using in mini, and mess with the values a bit until things look right!

if you can’t seem to get a good result because the background colour is too similar to the colours of your avatar, try changing the background colour in mini through the display settings button.

if you wanna make sure you won’t accidentally hover your cursor on the app and show mini’s UI during a stream, make sure to select hide interface in the display settings .

if the resolution of the window seems too low, resize the veadotube window to a larger size!

Spout

if you’re on Windows 64-bit, you can also use the Spout interface to stream your veadotube mini window to OBS! capturing through it completely hides the UI at all times and it’s perfectly transparent without any weird borders.

to use it, make sure the spout stream option inside the display settings menu is enabled.

download the Spout2 plugin for OBS over here; look for the first link that looks something like OBS_Spout2_Plugin_Install.exe, download it and install it! make sure OBS is closed during all that.

back in OBS, in the Sources panel, press +, select Spout2 Capture, optionally give it a name, and press OK.

that’ll bring up a window where you can select which Spout source to capture! if you have multiple instances of mini open, it’ll show multiple options as well. the Composite mode can be set to Default or Premultiplied Alpha to use transparency; the latter works best for me, personally.

if the resolution of the window seems too low, resize the veadotube window to a larger size!

shout out to VSeeFace, another app with Spout support, and the one that introduced me to it!

streaming two or more veadotube mini windows

you can open mini twice (or thrice and so on), and they’ll run independently; that might mess with the app’s settings a bit so make sure you’re manually saving your avatars before doing this approach.

each window will have a different title depending on the time they were opened, and you can use that to differentiate between each.

if you’re using Game Capture, make sure Window Match Priority is Match title, otherwise find window of same executable.

if you’re using Window Capture, make sure Window Match Priority is Match title, otherwise find window of same type.

if you’re using Spout2 Capture, don’t use Use first available sender in the Spout Senders field – manually select which Spout instance to use.

capturing on macOS

in the Sources panel, press +, select Window Capture, optionally give it a name, and press OK.

that will bring up a window where you can select which window to capture! make sure Show Window shadow is unchecked, and if you can’t find veadotube mini on the list, make sure Show Windows with empty names is checked.

if OBS doesn’t have permission to record your screen, no image will show up; macOS will prompt a warning about that the first time you try to do that.

to fix that, go to Apple icon > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Screen Recording and you should find OBS in the list. to edit that list, click on the lock on the bottom-left corner and enter your password; make sure OBS is checked, and restart OBS if the system prompts you to do so.

when you’re done, you should see that OBS is capturing veadotube mini!

to get rid of the window title and background, we gotta add some filters to it! right-click the window capture you just created, and select Filters.

you’ll want to add two filters. first of all, on the Effect Filters panel, press + and select Crop/Pad; this will get rid of the window title and the round corners.

change the Left/Top/Right/Bottom values until it’s all cropped; in my machine, the following values work fine: 10, 70, 10, 10.

now press + and select Colour Key; this will get rid of the background.

select the background colour you’re using in mini, and mess with the values a bit until things look right!

if you can’t seem to get a good result because the background colour is too similar to the colours of your avatar, try changing the background colour in mini through the display settings button.

that should do it! if you wanna make sure you won’t accidentally hover your cursor on the app and show mini’s UI during a stream, make sure to select hide interface in the display settings .

if the resolution of the window seems too low, resize the veadotube window to a larger size!

using your avatar as a webcam

you can make OBS output to a virtual webcam! which means that after you’ve added mini to OBS, you can use your mini avatar as your camera on Discord, Google Meet, whatnot.

to do that, in the Controls panel in OBS, select Start Virtual Camera; this should let you select the OBS-Camera webcam during video calls :]
